About

Betta cf. waseri is a large mouthbrooding Betta from the Malay Peninsula, closely allied to Betta waseri and possibly representing an undescribed species or regional variant. It inhabits slow forest streams and swampy areas. Like other large mouthbrooding Bettas, it requires a spacious tank, soft water, and live foods for optimal condition.

Care Guide

Water: temp 23–28°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft and slightly acidic water preferred. Tank: minimum 100L; heavily planted with driftwood and a secure lid. Feeding: carnivore — live invertebrates and earthworms preferred; accepts frozen foods. Behaviour: peaceful; males mouthbrood for 2–3 weeks; one male per tank. Compatibility: suitable with medium peaceful fish; avoid small nano species.
