Betta channoides
Origin: Borneo
Betta channoides — the snakehead or Borneo mouth-brooding betta — belongs to the unimaculata complex and has an elongated, snakehead-like body shape. Males mouthbrood the eggs rather than building a bubble nest. The vivid red-orange coloration in males under optimal conditions is stunning. It is rare in the hobby and requires soft, warm water. Males are generally not kept together, but a male-female pair in a well-planted tank will breed.
pH 5.0–7.0. Very soft, warm water (28–30°C). Pair in planted species tank. Feed: live invertebrates — artemia, daphnia. Males mouthbrood.
