Betta splendens x imbellis
Also known as: Betta imbellis Hybrid, Peaceful Betta Hybrid, imbellis Cross
Origin: Southeast Asia
Betta imbellis is a peaceful wild betta species from Malaysia and southern Thailand. When hybridised with Betta splendens, the offspring typically display reduced territorial aggression, natural blue-green and red iridescent colouration, and robustness that can make them easier to house in community settings. They retain the labyrinth organ and surface-breathing habits of both parent species.
Water: 22-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — slightly cooler tolerance from imbellis genetics. Tank: minimum 20L, well-planted with denser vegetation than standard bettas prefer. Feeding: carnivore — small live or frozen invertebrates, betta pellets, daphnia; twice daily. Behaviour: significantly less aggressive than pure Betta splendens; still territorial but rarely fatal. Compatibility: more compatible with small, peaceful fish than standard bettas; some pairs can coexist.
