Betta imbellis
Origin: Thailand, Ko Samui (captive-bred locality line)
The Ko Samui Betta imbellis is a locality collection form from Ko Samui island in Thailand, recognized for particularly vivid teal-green and red coloration compared to mainland populations. Betta imbellis, the Peaceful Betta, tolerates conspecifics far better than B. splendens, making species-only community setups possible in a sufficiently large tank. Ideal for blackwater biotope aquariums with leaf litter and dim lighting.
Provide soft, acidic water with peat filtration or Indian almond leaves. Keep individually or in carefully monitored groups in large tanks. Feed small live/frozen foods: daphnia, artemia, mosquito larvae. Provide floating plants and caves for territories. Avoid strong currents. Monitor for fin damage if housed communally.
