Betta imbellis
Origin: Thailand, Phuket (captive-bred locality line)
The Phuket Betta imbellis is a locality form derived from populations around Phuket, Thailand, displaying the characteristic blue-green iridescent scales edged in teal with red-tipped fins typical of this species. Like all imbellis, males are notably calmer toward each other than B. splendens, though caution remains advisable. Ideal for naturalistic blackwater biotope setups with leaf litter and soft, acidic water.
Maintain soft, acidic water with natural tannins from Indian almond leaves or peat. Provide dense planting and floating cover. Feed small live or frozen invertebrates. May be kept in groups in spacious tanks with adequate territories. Monitor for aggression. Avoid mixing with other betta species.
