Betta mahachaiensis
Origin: Thailand
Betta mahachaiensis is a wild betta species from coastal brackish-water areas of Samut Sakhon province, Thailand, where it inhabits water heavily influenced by Nipa palm forests and tidal areas. It has extraordinary iridescent blue-green scaling and is more robust than many wild bettas. Slight brackish conditions (1–3 g/L salt) are beneficial but not mandatory. This species is significantly rarer in the hobby than B. splendens and commands higher prices.
pH 6.5–8.0. Optional low-level salt (1–3 g/L). 40+ L. Warm (26–30°C). Feed: live/frozen invertebrates. Can be kept with small, peaceful fish.
