Hypselecara coryphaenoides
Also known as: Bicolor Cichlid, Coryphaenoides Cichlid
Origin: South America
Hypselecara coryphaenoides is a close relative of the better-known Emerald Cichlid (H. temporalis) from the Amazon basin. Displaying a distinctive two-tone body colouration and vivid red eyes, it is less frequently available than its cousin but equally rewarding. Moderately peaceful for a cichlid of its size.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft water preferred. Tank: Minimum 300L, well-planted with tall plants, driftwood, and open swimming areas. Feeding: Omnivore; quality large cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworm, prawns, vegetable-based foods. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; spawning pairs defend territory vigorously. Compatibility: Suitable with large tetras and robust catfish; avoid small or delicate species.
