Acaronia nassa
Also known as: Big-eye Cichlid, Large-eye Cichlid
Origin: South America
Acaronia nassa is a stocky, laterally compressed cichlid from the Amazon and Orinoco basins. Its enormous eyes give it exceptional low-light vision, an adaptation to the shaded, vegetated margins it inhabits. It is a sit-and-wait predator that feeds primarily on invertebrates and small fish.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to slightly hard water. Tank: Minimum 250L, dense planting or driftwood for hiding and ambush points, subdued lighting. Feeding: Carnivore; live or frozen invertebrates, small fish, prawn, quality cichlid pellets. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive and predatory; will eat smaller fish but is generally calm. Compatibility: Best with medium-large robust fish; avoid very small species.
