Naso vlamingii
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Vlaming's Unicornfish is one of the most spectacular open-water tang species, capable of rapidly changing colour from blue to dark gray during social interactions. Males develop an impressive unicorn-like forehead protrusion and long flowing caudal filaments. Requires an exceptionally large aquarium and is best kept by experienced aquarists.
Requires a minimum 700 L tank with very high flow and excellent filtration. Feed predominantly algae-based foods: nori, Gracilaria, spirulina, supplemented with mysis. Needs open swimming lanes. QT in a large tank before introducing to display. Long-lived — commitment of 10+ years required. Not suitable for most hobbyists.
