Biotodoma cupido
Origin: Amazon basin and Guiana Shield (Venezuela, Brazil, Guyana)
Biotodoma cupido, the Cupid Cichlid, is a beautiful smaller eartheater from the Amazon basin and Guiana Shield rivers. It displays a delicate pale green-blue body with a bold dark lateral spot positioned high on the flank and intricate blue facial markings. Unlike larger eartheaters, its relatively modest size makes it accessible for medium-sized aquariums. This gentle cichlid does best in peaceful communities with other soft-water Amazonian species.
Requires soft, acidic, warm water — use RO or very soft tap water. Provide fine sand substrate for sifting behaviour. Feed varied omnivore diet including small live foods, sinking pellets, and plant matter. Keep with peaceful Amazonian community fish. Sensitive to water quality; perform regular partial changes. Avoid large aggressive cichlids.
