Seriatopora hystrix
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Seriatopora hystrix produces extremely fine, intricately branched colonies resembling a bird's nest, with needle-like branch tips available in pink, cream, yellow, and green morphs. Visually delicate-looking but surprisingly robust once acclimatised to a stable reef. Strong random flow is essential to prevent sediment accumulation.
Place in high flow to keep sediment off the fine branches. Provide high lighting (PAR 200–350+). Maintain stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. Target feed with Reef Roids or copepods twice weekly for faster growth. Fragging is easy — snap branches and glue to plugs. Sensitive to rapid parameter swings.
