Austrolebias nigripinnis
Origin: Uruguay, Argentina
Austrolebias nigripinnis, the Black-Finned Pearl Killifish, is a striking South American annual killifish from temporary pools in Uruguay and Argentina. Males are adorned with a blue-grey iridescent pearl pattern over a dark body with jet-black fin edges — hauntingly beautiful. Cold-water tolerant for a killifish (16–22 °C), making it suitable for cool temperate setups. An annual species — eggs must be stored in moist peat for 60–90 days. A specialist killifish for cool-water enthusiasts. Sold as a 1 male + 2 females trio.
Cool water (16–22 °C), soft to medium, slightly acidic. Peat substrate. Feed live or frozen daphnia, bloodworm. Males can harass females — provide sight breaks. Collect eggs monthly, store moist peat at 20 °C for 90 days, then flood with cool water to trigger hatching.
