Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus
Origin: Western Pacific, Japan to Philippines
Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus is notable for the bold dark border that frames its dorsal and anal fins, contrasting beautifully against its vibrant red and yellow body. Found on deeper coral slopes in the western Pacific, it acclimatises well to captivity once feeding on frozen foods. Males display spectacular finnage during courtship flashing.
Provide a tightly fitting lid — fairy wrasses are prolific jumpers. Keep as a single male or in a harem (1 male : multiple females). Feed mysis, copepods, and marine flake 2–3 times daily. Peaceful toward corals and most invertebrates. Introduce before more aggressive species. Provide sand for sleeping if kept overnight.
