Corydoras melanistius
Origin: Guyana (Essequibo River system)
Corydoras melanistius, the Black Sail Cory, is a handsome and popular species from the Essequibo River in Guyana, recognized by its spotted pattern and a striking black blotch on the large dorsal fin that earned it its common name. It is one of the hardier corydoras and adapts well to a moderate range of water conditions, making it accessible for community tanks. Best kept in groups on fine sand substrate.
Provide fine sand substrate to protect sensitive barbels. Maintain good filtration with regular partial water changes. Keep in groups of 6 or more. Feed sinking wafers, frozen bloodworms, and small meaty foods. Avoid sharp gravel. Hardy and adaptable but sensitive to ammonia and nitrite spikes.
