Chaetodon melannotus
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
The Blackback Butterflyfish has a white body covered in fine diagonal black lines with a bold black band on the posterior body and tail base. Widespread across the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, it adapts well to aquarium conditions and accepts a variety of foods including mysis and coral polyp-based preparations.
Feed a varied diet: mysis, mussels, clam, coral polyp-based prepared foods. Provide ample live rock for grazing natural algae and biofilm. Sensitive to poor water quality. Can be kept in mated pairs if introduced simultaneously. Not reef-safe — will pick at coral polyps. QT before introduction to display tank.
