Nannostomus nigrotaeniatus
Origin: Rupununi River, Guyana
Nannostomus nigrotaeniatus, the Blackline Pencilfish, is a small pencilfish from the Rupununi River in Guyana. It is recognizable by a broad, intensely black lateral stripe running the full body length and vivid red coloration at the base of the tail. Hardier than many of its pencilfish relatives, it can acclimate to moderately hard water, making it more accessible for community aquarists. An excellent nano tank candidate.
Keep in groups of 8 or more in a nano to medium planted tank. Feed micro-pellets, daphnia, micro worms, and small frozen foods. Soft to moderately hard water acceptable. Provide dense planting and dim lighting to bring out best coloration. Peaceful with all similarly-sized non-aggressive fish.
