Indoplanorbis exustus
Also known as: Bladder Ramshorn, Asian Ramshorn Snail
Origin: South Asia
Indoplanorbis exustus is a small, coiled freshwater snail from South Asia, common in rice paddies and warm shallow waters. It grazes on algae, decaying plants, and organic matter and is well-suited to warm, tropical aquariums. Though it can reproduce quickly if fed heavily, its population is easily managed by reducing excess food.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0; moderately hard water with calcium supports shell development. Tank: Minimum 20L; tolerates a wide range of setups from planted tanks to bare-bottom aquariums. Feeding: Algae, detritus, and any decaying organic material in the tank. Behaviour: Active grazer; reproduces quickly if conditions are rich; eggs are laid in transparent clusters. Compatibility: Safe with all community fish and dwarf shrimp; control population by limiting overfeeding.
