Blastomussa merleti
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Blastomussa merleti differs from B. wellsi with smaller individual polyps forming more densely packed branching colonies in shades of red, brown, green, and pink. Its compact growth habit and vivid colouration make it popular for aquascaping lower reef zones where light is more diffuse. Responds well to phytoplankton and Reef Roids supplementation.
Place in low to moderate light (PAR 50–150) and low to moderate flow — strong flow collapses polyps. Target feed with Reef Roids or phytoplankton 2–3 times weekly for faster budding. Stable alkalinity (8–9 dKH) and calcium (400–420 ppm) promote steady growth. Easy to frag — snap branches and mount on plugs.
