Blastomussa merleti
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Blastomussa merleti produces smaller polyps than B. wellsi and often develops in a wider range of colour combinations including green, red, orange, and purple — sometimes all on the same colony. It forms denser, more compact colonies and is equally beginner-friendly, tolerating a wide range of conditions. Multi-colour colonies with contrasting polyp combinations are particularly sought-after by LPS collectors.
Low to medium PAR (50–200). Gentle to moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Weekly target feeding with Reef Roids or similar zooplankton-sized foods. Very tolerant of moderate nutrients. Allow space for colony expansion. Non-aggressive — safe for placement near other peaceful LPS. Frag by careful saw cuts between polyp groups.
