Blastomussa wellsi
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Blastomussa wellsi is one of the most beginner-friendly LPS corals available, forming compact colonies of large, fleshy, round-topped polyps in vivid combinations of red, maroon, green, and pink. It is exceptionally tolerant of low to medium light levels and moderate nutrient concentrations, making it a reliable choice for new reef keepers building their first coral collection. Under good conditions it divides steadily to form impressive colonies.
Low to medium PAR (50–200). Gentle to moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Tolerates NO3 up to 20 ppm — truly beginner-friendly. Target feed meaty small foods (Reef Roids, chopped mysis) 1× weekly for best growth. Does not extend sweeper tentacles — safe to place near other beginner-friendly corals. Frag by sawing between polyp heads.
