Chilatherina bleheri
Also known as: Bleher's Rainbowfish
Origin: Papua New Guinea (Sepik highlands)
Chilatherina bleheri originates from highland streams in the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea, where water is clear, cool, and well-oxygenated. A robust and impressively coloured species, it develops a vivid blue-green body and deep red fins with age. Requires good water quality and slightly cooler temperatures than lowland rainbowfish, making it best suited for the experienced keeper.
Water: 20–25°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard, well-oxygenated. Tank: 150 L+, good water movement and oxygenation, plants and open swimming space. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; cooler temperatures are important for health. Compatibility: Best with other highland rainbowfish; avoid warm-water-only species.
