Chilatherina bleheri
Origin: Mamberamo River basin, West Papua, Indonesia
Bleher's Rainbowfish is a spectacular and uncommon species from the Mamberamo River basin of West Papua, displaying striking blue-and-red banded coloration. Named for aquarium fish explorer Heiko Bleher, this species is prized by rainbowfish specialists for its unusual and vivid patterning. It does best in a species or rainbowfish-focused community aquarium with soft to neutral water.
Keep in schools of 6 or more, ideally with a 2:1 female to male ratio to reduce competitive aggression. Provide open swimming space with some planting. Feed quality flakes, frozen artemia, daphnia, and small insects. Males display best coloration when competing for female attention. Moderate water quality requirements.
