About

Hemichromis lifalili, the Blood Red Jewel Cichlid, is a West African dwarf cichlid from Congo basin tributaries. At breeding time both male and female turn a glowing ruby-red studded with iridescent turquoise-blue spots — one of the most vivid colour displays of any freshwater fish. A substrate spawner with excellent parental care. Best kept as a bonded pair in a species or single-pair setup as they become highly territorial when breeding.

Care Guide

Pair in 100+ L tank. Flat stones or caves for egg-laying. Temperature 24–28 °C, soft to medium water. Feed quality cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp. Remove other fish when pair is breeding as aggression intensifies dramatically.
