Pomacea bridgesii
Origin: South America (captive-bred)
The Blue Apple Snail is a captivating colour morph of Pomacea bridgesii displaying a unique blue-grey shell and matching dark-toned body. A popular choice for aquarists wanting large visually interesting snails without plant destruction risk — this species feeds primarily on detritus and algae. Requires calcium supplementation and a tight lid.
Maintain pH 7.0+ to prevent shell erosion. Provide calcium via cuttlebone or blanched broccoli. Ensure a very tight-fitting lid — apple snails are escape artists. Avoid copper medications (lethal). Breeds above the waterline in clutches of pink eggs — remove eggs if breeding is not desired. Feed blanched vegetables and algae.
