Caridina cantonensis var. 'Blue Bolt'
Also known as: Blue Bolt Shrimp, BB Shrimp
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Southern China
The Blue Bolt is among the most visually spectacular Taiwan Bee Caridina variants, featuring intense electric-blue coloration layered over a white base body. Developed through selective breeding from Blue Bolt and Crystal lines, their vivid blue hue deepens in a well-maintained, stable aquarium with soft, acidic, low-TDS water. Capricious with water parameters, Blue Bolts require RO water with a Caridina mineral additive, an active buffering substrate, and mature sponge filtration. They graze on biofilm and algae and should be fed supplemental shrimp-specific foods. The reward for careful husbandry is a shrimp of breathtaking beauty.
Water: pH 5.8–6.8, TDS 80–130 ppm, temperature 20–24°C; RO water with Caridina GH+ mineral additive and active substrate mandatory. Tank: 30–60 litres; dense moss, fine-leaf plants; sponge filter with gentle flow. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, mineral-enriched shrimp pellets, Indian almond leaves. Breeding: Females carry 15–25 eggs; hatchlings extremely sensitive to water fluctuations. Compatibility: Species-only or with other Taiwan Bee variants at matching parameters.
