Yasuhikotakia modesta
Also known as: Blue Botia, Red-finned Loach, Orange-finned Loach
Origin: Southeast Asia
Yasuhikotakia modesta is one of the more boisterous and assertive loaches in the Botiidae family, demanding ample space and a strong social group to manage its energy. Adult coloration shifts dramatically from blue-grey to warm orange-red, making mature specimens particularly striking. Its large adult size and spirited personality suit it best to experienced fishkeepers with large, well-filtered aquaria.
Water: 25-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderate hardness, good filtration. Tank: Minimum 250 L; large, open swimming areas with caves and driftwood. Feeding: Quality sinking carnivore pellets, earthworms, frozen meaty foods. Behaviour: Assertive and active; dominant individuals may bully tank mates. Compatibility: Best with large, robust fish; avoid timid or slow species.
