Botia modesta
Origin: Mekong basin, Thailand
Botia modesta, the Blue or Orange-Finned Loach, is a striking species from the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins. Its slate-blue body contrasts beautifully with vivid orange-red fins, making it one of the most visually distinctive botiid loaches. Grows to around 20 cm and can become a dominant personality in larger community tanks. Active during dusk and dawn; appreciates plenty of hiding spots. An efficient snail eater.
Groups of 5+ to spread social aggression. Large tank (150 L+) for adults. Sandy substrate, robust plants and wood. Temperature 24–28 °C, soft to medium water. Feed sinking meaty foods and snails. Avoid housing with very small fish.
