About

Yasuhikotakia modesta, the Blue Botia or Red-tailed Blue Loach, is a striking loach from river systems across Southeast Asia, prized for its steel-blue body contrasted with vivid orange-red fins and tail. An active and social species that should be kept in groups of five or more to prevent stress-related aggression. An excellent snail controller that brings bold color and personality to larger community aquariums.

Care Guide

Keep in groups of 5 or more. Provide hiding spots with driftwood, caves, and rocks. Feed quality sinking pellets, frozen invertebrates, earthworms — and it will eliminate pest snails. Needs a spacious tank with good filtration and moderate to strong current. Can be nippy toward slow-moving long-finned fish.
