About

Procambarus alleni is a naturally blue crayfish species endemic to the freshwater springs and waterways of Florida. Its intense sky-blue colouration intensifies with age and good diet. It is one of the larger hobby crayfish, reaching up to 13cm, and is best kept in a species-specific setup or with fast-moving, top-dwelling fish that can avoid its claws.

Care Guide

Water: 18–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0; moderately hard water with good oxygen levels. Tank: Minimum 100L with PVC pipes, caves, and driftwood for hiding; a lid is essential as it escapes easily. Feeding: Sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, frozen bloodworm, and meaty protein supplements. Behaviour: Active, inquisitive, and territorial; will damage or uproot plants; moults periodically. Compatibility: Best kept alone or with large, fast fish; will eat shrimp, snails, and slow bottom fish.
