Cyrtocara moorii
Also known as: Blue Dolphin Cichlid, Hump-head Cichlid, Moorii
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Cyrtocara moorii is unique among Malawi cichlids in that both its common name, body shape, and stunning blue colouration combine to create one of the most memorable freshwater fish in the hobby. The prominent frontal hump develops in males over several years. It is a gentle giant among Malawi cichlids, unusually peaceful for its size.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline with excellent filtration. Tank: 400L minimum; open sandy floor with rock structures at the perimeter. Feeding: Quality cichlid pellets and meaty frozen foods; not a herbivore. Behaviour: Surprisingly peaceful for a large Malawi cichlid; avoids confrontation. Compatibility: Excellent with other large non-aggressive Malawi haps; avoid very aggressive mbuna.
