Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Blue Dream Shrimp, Blue Neocaridina
Origin: Captive bred (originally East Asia)
The Blue Dream Shrimp is a high-grade blue Neocaridina davidi morph that has become one of the most popular colour forms in the hobby. Premium specimens display a rich, opaque sky-blue to cobalt-blue colouration across the entire body including legs and antennae, producing a stunning colour contrast against green plants and pale substrates.
Developed through selective breeding from the Blue Velvet line, the Blue Dream is distinguished by its deeper and more saturated blue colouration. It shares the same hardy, adaptable nature of all Neocaridina and thrives in typical moderately hard, neutral water — no RO equipment or special substrates required.
Blue Dream Shrimp are active, curious invertebrates that explore all areas of the aquarium throughout the day. They breed readily once established and form large, thriving colonies with minimal intervention.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; standard dechlorinated tap water suitable. Tank: minimum 20 L, dark substrate essential to showcase blue colour; heavy plant coverage. Feeding: algae wafers, blanched vegetables, shrimp pellets, occasional protein supplement. Breeding: easy; 20–30 eggs per clutch carried for 3–4 weeks; fry independent from birth. Compatibility: shrimp-safe community; avoid mixing with other blue Neocaridina to preserve colour.
