Ancistrus sp.
Origin: South America (exact locality undetermined)
The Blue Eye Bristlenose is a striking color variant or undescribed Ancistrus species with vivid blue-tinted iridescent eyes that contrast sharply with its dark, spotted body. Like other Ancistrus, males develop impressive tentacle-like bristles on the snout, and all individuals are effective algae grazers. Highly sought by pleco collectors and does well in planted aquariums with driftwood for rasping.
Provide driftwood for rasping and hiding. Feed algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, spinach), and occasional meaty foods. Requires well-oxygenated water with good filtration. Males territorial with each other — keep one male per tank. Nocturnal; provide caves for daytime refuge. Hardy and easy to keep.
