Fundulopanchax sjoestedti
Origin: Nigeria, Cameroon (coastal West Africa)
Fundulopanchax sjoestedti, the Blue Gularis, is one of the most spectacular killifish species, with males displaying an extraordinary mosaic of blue, red, and yellow markings and elaborate lyretail finnage. Native to coastal West Africa, it is an annual species in parts of its range and is one of the largest killifish in the hobby. Its size and predatory nature mean it is best housed in a species or biotope tank.
House in a species or biotope tank — will eat small fish. Provide soft, slightly acidic water with peat filtration. Feed meaty live and frozen foods: earthworms, bloodworms, prawns. Cover the tank well — excellent jumpers. Provide a substrate of peat or leaf litter for potential egg-laying in the annual populations. Keep 1 male to 2+ females.
