Linckia laevigata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Linckia laevigata is one of the most iconic reef aquarium stars, displaying brilliant solid blue colouration across its long smooth arms. It roams rock surfaces grazing on biofilm, detritus, and microorganisms. Highly sensitive to salinity, temperature, and oxygen changes requiring expert-level acclimation and stable reef conditions.
Drip-acclimate for 2–3 hours minimum — extremely sensitive to osmotic shock. Requires well-established reef (12+ months) with abundant biofilm-covered live rock. Never expose to air. Stable SG (1.025), temperature, and high oxygen levels are critical. Do not keep with fish that nip arms (some wrasses, puffers). Avoid copper. Advanced-only species.
