Discoplax hirtipes

Discoplax hirtipes is a striking land crab from Indo-Pacific island forests featuring a deep cobalt-blue carapace and pale blue-white legs. It is primarily terrestrial, venturing to the sea only to breed, and requires a large, specialised paludarium with deep substrate and access to brackish or marine water. It is rare in the hobby and highly sought after.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.5–8.5; provide a deep brackish soaking pool (SG 1.005–1.015) and fresh drinking water. Tank: Minimum 100L paludarium with very deep substrate (20cm+), high humidity (80%+), and a heavy, secure lid. Feeding: Fruit, fallen leaves, dried fish, coconut, and calcium supplements. Behaviour: Nocturnal and secretive; digs deep burrows; rarely seen during daylight hours. Compatibility: Species-only; not compatible with any fish or aquatic invertebrates.
