Carassius auratus
Also known as: Blue Oranda, Grey Oranda, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: China/Japan
The Blue Oranda is one of the rarer oranda color forms, displaying a subtle blue-grey metallic sheen that sets it apart from traditional red or orange varieties. Like all orandas, it requires excellent water quality and generous space to reach its full potential. Its wen develops gradually and is especially prone to bacterial infection if ammonia or nitrite levels are elevated.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, ammonia and nitrite at zero — wen health depends on it. Tank: minimum 150 L, fine gravel or bare-bottom, gentle water flow. Feeding: quality sinking pellets, peas, spinach, and occasional live or frozen foods. Behaviour: calm, inquisitive; often the first to investigate new objects in the tank. Compatibility: best kept with other fancy goldfish of similar size and speed.
