Xiphophorus maculatus
Origin: Central America (cultivated variety)

Like all platies it is undemanding, peaceful, prolific, and perfectly suited for beginner aquarists and community aquariums. Livebearers that breed readily — females should outnumber males to reduce harassment.
Very easy to keep in moderately hard, neutral to alkaline water. Maintain 1 male to 2–3 females ratio. Feed quality flake, micro-pellets, and some plant-based foods. Provide plants for cover and for fry. Hardy and tolerant of temperature range 18–28°C. Separate pregnant females if fry survival is desired.
