Betta splendens
Also known as: Blue Rim Betta, Red Blue Betta, Bicolour Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Blue rim bettas are bred for a clean, well-defined transition from a red or dark-coloured body to bright blue or royal-blue edges along all the fins. This pattern is sometimes called 'red blue' or 'bi-colour extended red with blue edge' in the show circuit and is highly valued for the sharpness and intensity of the colour boundary.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — good water quality maintains colour intensity in both zones. Tank: minimum 20L, planted; this dramatic colour contrast looks exceptional under white LED lighting. Feeding: carnivore — betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia; twice daily. Behaviour: males aggressive to own species — one per tank. Compatibility: peaceful community tanks; a striking specimen for display aquariums.
