Neritina pulligera
Also known as: Blue Spot Nerite Snail, Pulligera Nerite
Origin: Southeast Asia
Neritina pulligera is a medium-sized freshwater nerite snail with a smooth, high-gloss black or dark olive shell marked with soft iridescent blue-grey flecks that shimmer under aquarium lighting. Like all nerite snails, it is an extremely efficient algae eater, grazing diatoms, green spot algae, and hair algae from glass, rocks, and hardscape. It cannot complete its reproductive cycle in freshwater, so it does not create a pest snail problem.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18, KH 4–10; harder water promotes shell integrity. Tank: minimum 20 L, smooth surfaces and glass for algae grazing; secure lid as nerites escape. Feeding: algae, biofilm, algae wafers; supplement with blanched greens if algae is scarce. Behaviour: active algae grazer; will lay white eggs on glass and hardscape (infertile in freshwater). Compatibility: fully peaceful; compatible with shrimp, fish, and other snails.
