Trichogaster trichopterus
Also known as: Blue Three-spot Gourami, Blue Gourami
Origin: Southeast Asia
The Blue Three-spot Gourami is a selectively bred colour morph of Trichogaster trichopterus originating from Southeast Asia. It is one of the most widely kept gouramis due to its adaptability, bold personality, and attractive metallic blue colouration. Males can be territorial towards one another and may nip at longer-finned tankmates.
Water: temp 22–28°C, pH 6.0–8.0, moderately soft to hard water tolerated. Tank: minimum 80L, well-planted with open swimming space, tight-fitting lid essential. Feeding: omnivore — accepts flakes, pellets, live and frozen foods such as daphnia and bloodworm. Behaviour: semi-aggressive; males territorial — keep only one male per tank. Compatibility: suitable for medium community tanks; avoid slow-finned or very small tankmates.
