Xanthichthys auromarginatus
Origin: Pacific
Xanthichthys auromarginatus — the blue-throat trigger — is considered the most reef-compatible triggerfish, feeding mainly on zooplankton rather than invertebrates. Males are distinguished by a vivid blue chin patch and colourful fins. It is an active, open-water swimmer that requires a large aquarium with strong flow. While more reef-compatible than most triggers, it should still be monitored with shrimp and smaller crustaceans. A beautiful and active display fish.
Tank: 400+ L with open swimming space and strong flow. Feed: varied meaty diet, mysis, enriched brine. More reef-compatible than other triggers but monitor with shrimp.
