Thalassoma bifasciatum
Origin: Caribbean, Western Atlantic
The Bluehead Wrasse is famous for its dramatic sexual dichromatism — terminal phase males display a brilliant blue head separated from a green body by black-and-white bars. Common in Caribbean reefs, it is an active predator of small invertebrates and crustaceans. Its intelligence and personality make it a captivating centrepiece for larger FOWLR systems.
Provide sandy substrate for sleeping. Feed meaty marine foods: mysis, krill, chopped squid. Will eat small ornamental shrimp, worms, and small fish. Tight-fitting lid essential — active jumper. Pair-compatible in large systems; keep one male per tank. Best in FOWLR or large reefs with robust fish only.
