Boraras maculatus
Also known as: Dwarf Spotted Rasbora, Spotted Rasbora, Three-Spot Rasbora
Origin: Peninsular Malaysia, Southern Thailand
Boraras maculatus is larger than most Boraras species, reaching up to 2.5 cm, and its three-spotted pattern makes it easily distinguishable. It is found in slow-moving, vegetated freshwater streams and peat swamps in Malaysia and southern Thailand. It is one of the more adaptable Boraras and will tolerate moderately soft water.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.5–6.5, soft (GH 1–10); some tolerance for neutral water. Tank: 20 L minimum; fine-leaved plants, Java moss, soft substrate. Feeding: Micro pellets, Cyclops, baby brine shrimp, crushed flake. Behaviour: Peaceful; less shy than other Boraras; keep 8–12 for natural behaviour. Compatibility: Good with nano shrimp, other small rasboras, and pygmy corys.
