Boraras merah
Also known as: Merah Rasbora, Dwarf Rasbora
Origin: Kalimantan, Indonesia
Boraras merah (merah means 'red' in Malay) is one of the most intensely coloured of the Boraras genus. Found in shallow blackwater peat swamps of Kalimantan, it demands the same extremely soft, acid conditions as its close relatives but rewards keepers with almost fluorescent red coloration under proper lighting.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.0–6.5, GH 0–6; use RO or rainwater cut to target parameters. Tank: 20 L minimum; dark substrate, leaf litter, dense moss and fine-leaved plants. Feeding: Micro foods essential — baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro nematodes. Behaviour: Peaceful; males display vibrantly; keep groups of 10+ for best colouration. Compatibility: Shrimp-safe for adult Neocaridina; avoid all but the smallest, calmest tank mates.
