Ageneiosus sp.
Origin: South America (multiple river systems)
Ageneiosus species are large, predatory auchenipterid catfish from tropical South American river systems, characterized by a torpedo-shaped body, large upturned mouth, and prominent dorsal fin spine. Males possess a modified anal fin for internal fertilization. Fast and capable hunters that must be kept only with fish of similar or larger size. A spacious aquarium with robust filtration is essential.
House in a species or large-cichlid setup only — will consume all fish small enough to fit in its mouth. Provide a large, well-filtered tank with strong current. Feed meaty foods: large earthworms, whole prawns, large frozen fish chunks. Provide dim lighting and cave structures. Excellent jumper — secure the lid.
