Teleogramma brichardi
Also known as: Brichard's Rapid Cichlid, Brightly-colored Rapid Cichlid
Origin: Central Africa (lower Congo River)
Teleogramma brichardi is an elongated, torpedo-shaped cichlid uniquely adapted to the extreme currents of the lower Congo River rapids, one of the most hydrodynamically demanding freshwater environments on Earth. It is a specialised feeder and requires excellent water quality with strong oxygenation. Cave-spawning pairs are highly territorial and best kept in a dedicated Congo rapids biotope.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5; high dissolved oxygen, strong flow essential. Tank: Minimum 100L; Congo rapids biotope with smooth stones, strong circulation, and minimal substrate. Feeding: Small frozen invertebrates, live bloodworm, daphnia; reluctant to accept dry food initially. Behaviour: Cave spawner; male defends a large territory; a ferocious fighter if rivals are introduced. Compatibility: Species-only tank strongly recommended due to specialist water and territorial requirements.
