Carassius auratus
Also known as: Bristol Shubunkin, Shubunkin Goldfish, Calico Goldfish
Origin: UK
The Bristol Shubunkin was developed in England and is distinguished from the London and American Shubunkin by its large, well-rounded tail fin lobes which should not fork or have pointed ends. It carries the same blue-based calico coloration and nacreous scaling. It is an excellent pond fish and is especially popular in the UK.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, excellent for outdoor ponds in temperate climates. Tank: minimum 150 L; thrives in garden ponds where it can shoal with other goldfish. Feeding: quality pond pellets, live foods such as worms, and plant material. Behaviour: hardy and active; one of the easiest goldfish to maintain over winter. Compatibility: other shubunkin, comet goldfish, and koi in larger ponds.
