Carassius auratus
Also known as: Bubble Eye Goldfish, Water-bubble Eye, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: China
The Bubble Eye Goldfish is one of the most distinctive fancy goldfish, carrying large, jelly-like fluid sacs under each eye that wobble as it swims. These sacs are fragile and can puncture on sharp objects, so a carefully arranged, smooth-décor tank is essential. It has no dorsal fin, giving it a slow, buoyant swimming style.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, gentle filtration — avoid strong currents that stress the eye sacs. Tank: minimum 120 L, bare-bottom or soft sand, absolutely no sharp rocks or decorations. Feeding: sinking or floating foods near the surface since vision is upward; peas help prevent bloat. Behaviour: peaceful, slow, and somewhat clumsy — fascinating to watch. Compatibility: only with other bubble-eye or celestial goldfish; any other species risks damaging the sacs.
