Pseudotropheus crabro
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Pseudotropheus crabro is a bold mbuna from Lake Malawi with a striking yellow and black pattern that resembles a bumblebee, particularly in juveniles and females. One of the larger mbuna species, it requires a spacious and heavily decorated aquarium to manage its considerable territorial behaviour. A fascinating and visually impressive cichlid for experienced Malawi keepers.
Provide a large, heavily rockscaped tank (250L+) with numerous caves and territories. Maintain hard, alkaline Malawi water. Keep with similarly robust mbuna — do not house with small or timid species. Feed quality cichlid pellets with plant matter; avoid excessive protein. One male to multiple females recommended.
