Brachygobius xanthozonus
Also known as: Bumblebee Goby, Gold-banded Bumblebee Goby
Origin: Southeast Asia
Brachygobius xanthozonus is found in coastal streams, mangrove channels, and tidal creeks of Southeast Asia. Its wider yellow bands make it marginally more striking than B. doriae, and the two are frequently confused in the trade. It shares the same micro-predator lifestyle and demanding live-food preferences.
Water: 24–28 °C, pH 7.5–8.5, specific gravity 1.003–1.008; stable low-end brackish. Tank: 40 L minimum; numerous caves essential for territorial behaviour and successful breeding. Feeding: Predominantly live/frozen foods — bloodworm, brine shrimp, Daphnia; micro pellets occasionally accepted. Behaviour: Males are highly territorial; provide one cave per fish minimum; females are plumper. Compatibility: Species tank strongly recommended; incompatible with shrimp or nano fish.
